# State Campaign Contributions API – Donors to State and Local Campaigns

Contributions to state and local candidates, parties and PACs from state campaign finance agencies (Texas, Illinois, Washington, Minnesota, Colorado, Indiana, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Hawaii, New York) in one schema, refreshed weekly.

## What it returns

Contributions to state and local candidates, party committees and PACs, collected from each state's campaign finance agency and mapped onto one schema: recipient, candidate, contributor, contributor type, city, state, ZIP, employer, occupation, amount, date and receipt type.

Search one state or several by recipient or candidate name, contributor, employer, occupation, contributor city, state or ZIP, minimum amount and date range, newest or largest first. Or group the matches to get totals by recipient, contributor, employer, occupation, year, state or contributor state, for example the top employers giving to a candidate or out-of-state money into a race.

States covered: Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Nebraska, New York, Oklahoma, Texas and Washington, more added as their agencies publish bulk files. Contributor street addresses are not included.

Sources: Colorado TRACER, Indiana Election Division, Nebraska Accountability and Disclosure Commission, Oklahoma Ethics Commission, Illinois State Board of Elections, Texas Ethics Commission, Minnesota Campaign Finance Board, Washington Public Disclosure Commission, Hawaii Campaign Spending Commission and New York State Board of Elections (data.ny.gov, from 1999) bulk data, rebuilt weekly. Years covered vary by state (Illinois from 1994; Minnesota from 2015; Nebraska from 2022 on its current system).

## Request

| `states` | list of strings | Two-letter states to search, e.g. TX, IL. Covered: CO, HI, IL, IN, MN, NE, NY, OK, TX, WA. |
| `recipient` | string | Committee or candidate committee name contains, e.g. Abbott. |
| `candidate` | string | Candidate name contains (falls back to the committee name). |
| `contributor` | string | Contributor name contains, e.g. Valero or Smith, John. |
| `employer` | string | Contributor's employer contains. |
| `occupation` | string | Contributor's occupation contains. |
| `city` | string | Exact city of the contributor. |
| `contributorStates` | list of strings | States the contributors live in (e.g. out-of-state money). |
| `zips` | list of strings | Five-digit contributor ZIP codes. |
| `minAmount` | number | Smallest contribution in dollars. |
| `dateFrom` | string | YYYY-MM-DD. |
| `dateTo` | string | YYYY-MM-DD. |
| `sort` | string: newest, largest | newest or largest first. Default: `"newest"`. |
| `groupBy` | string: recipient, contributor, employer, state, year, contributorState, occupation | Return totals instead of rows: by recipient, contributor, employer, state, year, contributorState or occupation. |
| `maxItems` | integer | Maximum items to return (1-500). Default: `100`. |

Each call returns up to 500 items. Records that fail validation or are not found are flagged in the items and not charged.

## Pricing

Pay only for results returned: $0.80 per 1,000 records. No charge for errors or empty searches.
