What it returns
DataCite registers DOIs for research outputs that are not journal articles: datasets, software, preprints, theses, images and more, from Zenodo, Dryad, PANGAEA, Figshare, arXiv and thousands of other repositories. 60 million+ DOIs; metadata is CC0.
DOI, title, general and specific resource type, publisher, publication year, version, language, abstract, creators and their affiliations, subjects, licences, funders, formats, sizes, number of related identifiers, citation, view, download, reference and version counts, registered and updated dates, landing page and doi.org link.
Common uses
Finding datasets and code to reuse by topic, tracking a repository's or funder's research outputs, counting dataset citations and downloads for impact reports, resolving DOIs in reference managers and data catalogs, and checking licences before reuse.
