How to recover your business Facebook page

Most lost pages fall into one of two cases: the page or an admin's account was hacked, or the only person with full control has left, often a former employee or an agency. Meta has a different route for each, so work out which one you are in first.

At a glance

  1. 1. Work out which case you are inYou can still log in, but the page is gone from your account or your access was removed: start with step 2.
  2. 2. Ask whoever has full controlOnly people with full control can give access back.
  3. 3. If the page was hackedUse Meta's Facebook Page recovery form while logged in.
  4. 4. If an agency or ex-employee owns the business portfolioAsk them to give your own business portfolio access to the page, or to remove the page from theirs so you can claim it.
  5. 5. Act before the page is deactivatedMeta says a page needs at least one person with full control.
  6. 6. Make sure it cannot happen againKeep the page in a business portfolio your company owns, not one an agency owns

1. Work out which case you are in

  • You can still log in, but the page is gone from your account or your access was removed: start with step 2.
  • Someone changed the page, posted things you did not, or you got a security email you did not expect: it may have been hacked, see step 3.
  • The page sits in a business portfolio (Business Manager) that belongs to an agency or a former employee: see step 4.

2. Ask whoever has full control

Only people with full control can give access back. Meta's advice is to find that person and ask them to add you. If you do not know who it is, ask current and former staff, contractors and any agency that ran your ads or posts to check their own access.

3. If the page was hacked

Use Meta's Facebook Page recovery form while logged in. If you cannot log in at all, go to facebook.com/hacked on a phone or computer you have used to log in before. Meta says it can only act when it can confirm the page was compromised, and it aims to reply by email, though reviews can take longer. Once you are back in, check the page and business portfolio for changes you did not make and turn on two-factor authentication for everyone with access.

4. If an agency or ex-employee owns the business portfolio

Ask them to give your own business portfolio access to the page, or to remove the page from theirs so you can claim it. If nobody can be reached, Meta has a page release process that asks for documents proving the business and the page are yours. Meta says it can take weeks to months and that it does not accept these requests from agencies or consultants on your behalf, so the request has to come from the business.

5. Act before the page is deactivated

Meta says a page needs at least one person with full control. If nobody has it, the page can be deactivated and scheduled for deletion, so start as soon as you notice.

6. Make sure it cannot happen again

  • Keep the page in a business portfolio your company owns, not one an agency owns
  • Give at least two people in the business full control
  • Give agencies and freelancers task access through your portfolio, never full control
  • Turn on two-factor authentication for every admin

We can gather what the platform asks for, file the request, follow it up and set up access so one person leaving never locks you out again.

Questions people ask first

Can Meta just give me the page back if I own the business?

Only through its own routes: the hacked page form, or the page release process with documents. Support chats cannot move a page on request.

My page was deleted. Can it be restored?

A deactivated page can be reactivated by someone with full control. If nobody has it, start the page release or recovery route straight away, before deletion goes through.

Can an agency do this for me?

An agency can prepare it with you, but Meta says it does not accept page release requests from agencies or consultants, so the business submits it.

How long does it take?

A hacked page review can be quick. A page release without the current admin can take weeks or months.
