What it returns
Look up the official FEMA flood zone for any US address or map point. For each location you get the flood zone from FEMA's National Flood Hazard Layer (AE, VE, A, X and the rest) with a plain-English risk description, whether it lies in a Special Flood Hazard Area (where flood insurance is required for federally backed mortgages), the base flood elevation where FEMA has set one, the FIRM map panel and its effective date, and the NFIP community. Addresses are geocoded with the US Census geocoder; batch up to 100 locations per run.
